The greatest changes in psychoanalysis over more than 100 years were mainly the result of social crises. From the seminal texts of august aichorn in his work with teenagers, going through the war wards of anna freud, to the management of residential homes by clair winnicott during the london blitz, just to name a few. Where would psychoanalysis be without crisis? With the current pandemic, changes do not occur at the initiative of rebel or visionary psychoanalysts, or by attempts to apply psychoanalysis to new patients, but result from a global circumstance that affects everyone in the most varied dimensions of life.
And after the crisis? What kind of impacts did isolation, uncertainty, abandonment, overlapping roles, loss of privacy, and loss of income will have? Will there be more post-traumatic stress, increased anxiety and depression? Will this be a phase or is it the new normal? What is lost and what can we learn from online psychotherapy? What personal characteristics facilitated or hindered the change of professionals and patients? What changes have been made at this time in our way of working, and which are here to stay and what implications have they brought to our psychoanalytic way of thinking?
If one of the biggest challenges we face is linked to the drastic change in the setting that pushes us towards relationships mediated by technology, it is also true that the global changes that are in motion raise doubts as to the consequences with which we will have to confront in the current social, political and economic scenario.
This year's congress privileges the social area in particular for professionals who work in services such as the child protective services; family counseling and parental support centers; multidisciplinary teams; early intervention teams; fostering homes, residential shelters, therapeutic communities, municipalities, non-governmental social intervention organizations, homes, schools, etc. Entities that, pursuant to its statutory regime, push the technicians to bureaucratic labor with users, but that, as it was the initial intuition of sandor ferenczi and sigfried bernfeld, may benefit from a psychoanalytic theoretical approach.
We invited world rename colleagues of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy (accelerated experiential dynamic psychotherapy, intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy, brief dynamic therapy, couples and family therapy; and psychodrama); and from psychoanalytic social service to talk about their work, but also how they see the future marked by this crisis that we live.
